The 2010 FIFA World Cup put South Africa on the map as one of the most beautiful and reasonable countries to visit in the world. The World Cup thus paved the way for international tourists and numbers have been increasing steadily since then.
Despite the global economic crisis, tourist arrivals to South Africa grew by 10.5% over the first six months of 2012, which is double the global tourism growth rate of 5%.
South Africa has received particularly strong growth from emerging markets, with Asia growing by 40,7% and Central and South America by 54,4%. The country has recorded 23.1% growth in tourist arrivals from India, a massive 71.7% growth from Brazil and 67.7% from China. After the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Brazil became a highly promising market for SA and many joint initiatives have been undertaken between the two countries.
